What are the classes like?

The focus of the classes is on creativity and the creative process. I am a strong believer that all children are creative, and it is up to us to allow that creativity to flourish and develop.

During the classes each child creates with different materials, in sculpture, drawing and painting with different media, collage, and other art forms. The kind of activities and creations depend on the age of the child and his or her motivations.

Children are not expected to copy great artists, but rather to work with the freshness of childhood perception.

How many children are there in a class?

The class groups are small – usually 5 and not more than 7 children- for each child will work on an individual creation based on his or her motivation.

How often do the classes take place and how long are they?

Each group meets once a week for 90 minutes.

At what age can my child start?

My younger students are 2 years old. This age group is more focused on the process and the experience than on the final product. As they grow older they become more aware of their creations and there focus changes some. Still, the pleasure and happiness derived from the creative process is what they all cherish the most.

Do I need to buy art materials?

No. All the materials are provided. The child only needs to have a set of old clothes and shoes that can get really dirty and stained.

Where do the classes take place?

The classes usually take place in a family home where I set up the mobile studio. Your child can join an existing group or you can host a group in your home.

If you are interested in classes for your child, or in hosting an art class in your home, please send me an e-mail to info@lauratobi.com

Adults

A Catalyst

sculpture adult classes

What are the classes like?

I offer ceramic sculpture classes for adults. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary. Each student works with clay on something different. The focus is on finding your own image.

The work starts with an open ended excercise that acts as a catalyst . Every student then follows their very own path. I am the guide in the discovery process, providing the student with techniques as needed.
